Once you get arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) in Dallas, your driver’s license is taken from you by the arresting officer. However, your driver’s license is not suspended at this time.

From the date of your arrest, you have fifteen (15) days to request a hearing to contest the suspension of your driver’s license by the DPS. If this hearing is not requested, forty (40) days from the date of your arrest your driver’s license will be automatically suspended.
